International Conference Call for Papers

“Educating Youth for Citizenship: East and West” is an international conference addressing issues in citizenship education to be held in Beijing, China on 1-3 June 2009. Hosted by Beijing Normal University School of Education and the College of Education at New Mexico State University, the Conference is co-sponsored by the United States-China J. William Fulbright Program in conjunction with the Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy in Beijing and the Confucius Institute of New Mexico State University. Proposals for papers are due on 28 February. Participants are invited to present proposals for addressing one of the four conference themes:

  • Parenting: Beginning the Civic Education Process
  • Schooling: Redefining Civic Education Instruction by Constructing a
    Middle Way Between State Direction and Individualism
  • Institutions: Developing a Friendly Environment for Civic Education
    Between Schools and Communities
  • Society: The Scholar’s Role in Developing a Healthy Civic Society
