Board of Visitors/Advocates

Each college has an external Board of Visitors/Advocates comprised of volunteer community members and alumni. The role of board members are to critique and advise on a range of matters, including the college’s role in community engagement and methods to measure its capacity and quality of community engagement programs and activities.

Community Engagement Committee

Each college has a minimum of one representative on the university-wide Community Engagement Committee whose purpose is to enhance community engagement across colleges and campuses.

Leadership Development and Volunteerism

The office of Leadership Development and Volunteerism connects faculty and students with more than 100 agencies, located throughout the state, needing volunteers.

Office of University Partnerships

The Office of University Partnerships is an effort to encourage and expand the growing number of partnerships formed between colleges and universities and their communities. OUP recognizes the crucial role these collaborations and partnerships play in addressing local problems and revitalizing our nation’s communities. Additionally, colleges and universities are making future generations aware of these issues by integrating partnership activities into their academic studies and student activities.

Awards

In the 2008 Community Engagement Survey, 56 percent of OU colleges/departments/units gave specific engagement awards. These recognized activities and achievements of students, faculty, staff, alumni and community partners. Some examples include:

Merrick Foundation Teaching Award

Recognizes outstanding achievement in bringing students a better understanding and appreciation of the civic basis of American society.

Outstanding Faculty Awards

University of Oklahoma Student Association Outstanding Faculty Awards recognize excellence in teaching with emphasis on engaging learners beyond the classroom.

Regents’ Professorship

Regents’ Professorship recipients are distinguished professors who have achieved unusual distinction in teaching and guidance of students, research and service to community.
